Dress/blouse Kastanje
Description:
This dress/blouse is, at its core, quite simple. One shoulder and the opposite side seam are draped with large pleats, which help create shape and a lively silhouette. The drop-shoulder detail gives a raw, playful expression and also makes it easy to create a sleeveless blouse version. The neckline sits high at the neck, while both the dress and blouse are fastened with three buttons along one shoulder seam. The dress hem sits midway up on the thigh and the sleeve hem rests on the wrist.
Please notice the fit of the Kastanje dress/blouse is on the tight side. Consider sizing up if you want a more loose-fitting garment. It is recommended to make a fitting model of the Kastanje dress/blouse before cutting out the pattern pieces in your final fabric.
Also please notice that the pleats are meant to look random. The pleats from the front and back bodice are not meant to match each other along the shoulder- and side seam.
Recommended fabric:
Choose a light- to medium-weight woven fabric preferably with 1-3% stretch (elastane) and with natural drape and elasticity on the bias. You can also choose fabric with a slightly crisp feel, which will help the pleats stand out more clearly. If you use fabric with no stretch then you should consider sizing up. The fabric can be made of natural fibers (cotton, viscose, linen, silk, wool etc.) or synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon, lycra, elastane etc.) or a mix. Recommended weaves include plain weave, satin, crepe, twill, jaquard etc.
Unsuitable fabric:
Heavy or very stiff fabric with no elasticity on the bias.
