How to sew with knitted fabric?

When it comes to sewing with knitted fabric I feel like people either love or hate it. 

I know many home dress makers prefer to work with knits/jerseys because it's easier to get a good fit when the garment is allowed to stretch around the body. Personally, it has taken me a few good years to get comfortable sewing with knits because I didn't really know how I should stitch the pattern pieces together. 

Sewing with knits requires a bit more technical skills than sewing with a plain weave fabric that is firm in both directions. If you are a complete beginner with sewing I recommend to start working with plain weave cotton and only when you feel comfortable with woven fabric you can venture into the world of knits.
